Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani joined “The Tonight Show” where Gwen gave her boyfriend a mullet before the two performed their duet “Nobody But You.”
Hair getting long in quarantine? Blake Shelton feels your pain.
Luckily for the country star, 43, he had a haircut appointment scheduled for Monday, conducted by his girlfriend, Gwen Stefani – while he was being interviewed by Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show.”
As Shelton explained, it’s important amid quarantine to stay in a routine. And his routine that day while staying in Oklahoma with “a bunch of Stefanis” included both a haircut and a remote appearance on the late night show.
“This interview – I wanted to do it, but we actually have a schedule that we already had lined up for today and I don’t think we can put it off any longer,” he told Fallon as Stefani, wielding a hair clipper, stepped into frame.
The singer-songwriter, 50, explained that she needed to help her boyfriend “grow out his mullet,” trimming the sides of his hair while Fallon continued to ask them both questions.
Shelton shared with Fallon he was supporting the charity MusiCares, which began a relief fund to help those in the music industry affected by the coronavirus. He also reflected on how the pandemic could affect his hosting gig on “The Voice.”

“What’s scary is we’re going to have to do ‘The Voice’ in some fashion like this, because obviously, the live shows are coming up here in just a matter of weeks,” Shelton said. “Especially in LA, we’re not going to be ready to have events again. So it’s going to be crazy. We’re going to have to coach (virtually). It’s just going to have to work out this way. It’s going to be nuts.”
All the while, Stefani continued to work on his hair, at one point attempting to carve out a “J” and an “F” into the sides of his head for Fallon.
“How’s the mullet? Is the mullet getting long in the back?” Shelton asked the host.
“Not long enough, man,” Fallon said. “You can get it longer. But it’s getting close.”
Since announcing he would vacate his regular “Tonight Show” studio in mid-March over coronavirus concerns, Fallon has been hosting nightly weekday segments of “The Tonight Show: At Home Edition” online. Each episode highlights a celebrity and their favorite charity, which has featured stars like Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jennifer Garner and Taraji P. Henson, plus charities including Feeding America, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and Save the Children.
Fallon, who previously told USA TODAY all about a day in his quarantine life, said he gets production help from his family: His wife, Nancy, serves as camera operator while his older daughter, 6-year-old Winnie, draws signs in place of his usual graphics.
“I usually try and do that from a quiet room in my house, but I don’t think there is one,” he joked. “Maybe I’ll do the next interview from the bathroom with a lock on the door.”
