The Financial Post has earned seven nominations for the sixth annual edition of the Best in Business awards, which recognize excellence in business reporting and are handed out by the Canadian chapter of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers (SABEW).
Altogether, nine members of the Post team are being recognized in categories ranging from reporting to commentary to video to newsletters.
“These nominations are well deserved and a testament to the hard work and breadth of insight that the Financial Post’s journalists bring to their work every day,” said Financial Post Interim Editor Joe Hood. “All members of the Post’s reporting and editing team can be proud of the outstanding work being recognized here.”
Geoffrey Morgan in Calgary and Vanmala Subramaniam in Toronto earned a nomination in the package category for their series in late 2019 about the declining economic fortunes of rural towns across Alberta. Morgan was also nominated for best scoop for a story on the billionaire Koch brothers’ exit from the Canadian oilpatch.
In the feature (short-form) category, Joe O’Connor earned a nod for his story about an historic gold mine and potential future gold boom in a tiny Ontario town fittingly called El Dorado.
The Post’s investing reporter, Victor Ferreira, is nominated in the personal finance and investing category for his investigation into the inconvenient truth about responsible investing.
Columnist Kevin Carmichael is nominated for his takes on the Canadian economy in the commentary category, which he won last year.
